Italy Scholarships for International Students 2027
Studying in Italy is generally cheaper than in many other European countries. However, there are still costs to consider, such as rent, food, and visas. The tuition fees at Padua are set at €2,790 for non-EU students for the 2026/27 academic year. As such, most scholarships will focus on living costs. There are three types of scholarships available in Italy: National Scholarships, Merit-Based Scholarships from universities, and Regional Scholarships for housing and food.
In the next four weeks, there are two deadlines that are very close. The first round of the Padua Scholarship closes on 15th November 2026. The early application period for the Politecnico di Milano Scholarship closes on 1st December 2026. There are several national scholarships that have not been published for the 2027/28 academic year, such as the Italian Government (MAECI) Scholarships. November 2026 has been used to check the deadlines. Deadlines will change each year, so it is important to check the official website.
What Do They Usually Cover?
No Tuition Fees or Reduced Tuition Fees: Padua, Politecnico di Milano, and Bocconi all offer this.
Annual Stipend: Padua offers €8,000 gross with no student fees. Politecnico di Milano waives full tuition fees, and some scholarships offer up to €10,000.
Housing and Food: Regional DSU Scholarships can provide free housing and free meals from the canteen.
Visa, Insurance, and Travel Costs: These are normally not covered by university scholarships, so be sure to check each scholarship. MAECI Scholarships have included health insurance in recent years.
Many scholarships in Italy will be partially funded, and most will only be available for master’s students.

How to Find the Right Scholarship for You
Profile: Padua, Politecnico di Milano, and Bocconi all use academic merit, so grades will be the most important factor. Ca’ Foscari requires a CGPA of 85% or above.
Country: MAECI and ‘Invest Your Talent in Italy’ have country lists. These change every year. Padua does not allow Italian citizens or those living in Italy.
Course: Most merit scholarships require you to be enrolled in an English-taught master’s course. Padua and Ca’ Foscari also offer funding for bachelor’s degrees.
Combining Scholarships: ‘Invest Your Talent in Italy’ cannot be combined with DSU Scholarships.
3 Common Mistakes That Can Ruin a Good Application
1. Thinking You Need to Complete a Separate Application
Padua and Bocconi do not require this. Politecnico di Milano does. Be sure to check each scholarship.
2. Applying Late
Bocconi states that most scholarships are awarded in the first few rounds. Padua mainly awards scholarships to those applying in the first round.
3. Thinking Guide Websites Are Up to Date
Many websites still list Unibo Action 1 and 2. Always check the university page.
